In registering for the International SynBYSS Conference, participants agree to the following participant expectations, code of conduct, and terms.

Presentation of Unpublished Results

The SynBYSS Conference aims to unite scientists at the cutting edge of synthetic biology. The conference further seeks to invest in the young, diverse, and international future of synthetic biology. As such, we strongly encourage all presenters to focus their presentations on unpublished and/or preprinted results.

Confidentiality

To encourage open science and the sharing of unpublished results, the SynBYSS conference committee believes it is important to maintain the confidentiality of unpublished results. The proceedings of this conference should be considered confidential communications between the presenters and the meeting participants. Participants must not photograph or record (audio or video) any presentation or poster without the explicit permission of the presenter. Participants agree to refrain from posting any images of presentations, poster or oral, or commentary about presentations, to social media platforms of any kind without the express permission of the presenter.

Non-Discrimination Statement

The SynBYSS Conference does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, citizenship, national origin (ancestry or English proficiency), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or military status.

Code of Conduct

The SynBYSS Conference Committee seeks to create an open, welcoming, and respectful atmosphere in which all synthetic biologists feel safe and welcome to participate. Participants are expected to refrain from disrespectful, unprofessional, or illegal behavior, including sexual harassment, discrimination, or violence against any participant. The violation of local laws, or the posted policies of our co-host institutions, JCVI and University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, will not be tolerated. Violation of these expectations may result in removal of a participant from the conference.

The relevant polices of our sponsor organization will be observed by the SynBYSS community and can be found here: https://manoa.hawaii.edu/titleix/policies/.

Refund Policy

Full refunds are available within about 60 days of registration up to the registration closing date of November 8, 2024. Once a payment has been fully processed (outside the ~60-day window), we may only be able to provide you with a partial refund. Refunds requested from November 8, 2024, to December 8, 2024, will be refunded at 50% registration costs, less transaction fees. There will be no refunds after December 8, 2024.

Violations of the Policy

If any participant has concerns about violation of any of the above stated policies, these concerns may be brought to the organizing committee at [email protected].
